Private Tutors – what’s the big deal about them?
Here at Top Test Prep, we believe the quality of tutoring we provide our students is incomparable, due largely to the fact that our network of private tutors are highly knowledgeable in the areas they teach.
Working with a private tutor is a great way to keep yourself accountable when preparing for standardized tests or studying for your classes. A private tutor works one-on-one with you, and will be able to design lesson plans and assignments tailored to your learning style. Don’t forget these tips to maximize the benefits from private tutoring:
- Identify your goals. These can be as broad as career goals to as specific as SAT scores. Once your tutor has a firm grasp on what motivates you, the two of you will be able to monitor your progress towards that finish line.
- Keep up the work outside of your lessons. Often, private tutors meet with their students only once or twice a week whereas students are used to learning five days a week in the classroom. Practice and review the concepts from your tutoring sessions between lessons—this way, each lesson builds off of the previous one.
- Be honest. Your tutor can’t read your mind when you’re having trouble understanding a particular concept. Whether you would like your tutor to repeat an explanation or provide more practice material, maintain open and honest communication to identify challenges as they arise.
